HOSPITALITY
Square Refuge is a renovation and redevelopment project designed to transform a 1970s mountain house, characterized by a concrete structure and typical design of the era, into a modern and functional residence that harmonizes perfectly with the surrounding natural context. The goal is to enhance the qualities of the existing house while improving its energy efficiency and integration with the mountainous landscape.
The property, with its square plan and traditional wooden gable roof, extends over two levels. The main facade will undergo a radical transformation, introducing a large window that provides a direct visual and spatial connection with the external environment, allowing for full enjoyment of the spectacular panoramic views. This architectural choice not only enhances natural light but also establishes a continuous dialogue between the interiors and the landscape.
On the ground floor, a new bathroom area will be created, accessible via an anteroom and directly connected to the living area, thus optimizing functionality without altering the building’s volume. Additionally, the external staircase will be replaced with an internal staircase, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable connection between the two levels. The master bedroom on the first floor will feature a private balcony/terrace, creating an intimate space for relaxation and enjoying the view.
The outdoor areas will be expanded with a large terrace overlooking the main window, extending the living area outdoors and providing a welcoming space for gatherings during the summer months. Not far from the house, two staggered wooden platforms will be built, designated for a relaxation area with a solarium, sauna, and hot tub. The old external bathroom will be converted into a changing room and service area for the new relaxation space.
The project stands out for its use of traditional and local materials, such as wood for the new structures and external cladding, and stone for the partial covering of the existing building. This choice aims to integrate harmoniously with the natural environment, preserving the identity of the mountain context and enhancing the local construction tradition.
