The renovation project for this apartment, originally the childhood home of a young couple, was conceived with the aim of transforming the spaces into a modern, functional environment tailored to contemporary needs. Previously, the apartment was defined by fragmented spaces, with separate rooms like the isolated living room and all areas connected by a central hallway. The reorganization of the layout has completely reimagined this arrangement, creating a fluid, open-plan design.
The entrance was relocated and redesigned to immediately open into a spacious area that flows towards the living room. This new entrance fosters a sense of openness, welcome, and continuity throughout the living spaces. The previously separate kitchen was moved adjacent to the sliding doors leading to the outdoor terrace, allowing the indoor living spaces to seamlessly extend outdoors. The kitchen features a central island, not only intended for meal preparation but also as a place for informal gatherings, along with a fully equipped wall that maximizes functionality.
One of the standout features of this project is the recessed fireplace, centrally positioned within the space. Beyond providing even heating, the fire acts as a unifying symbol for domestic life: visible from the kitchen, dining area, and living room, it serves as a focal point around which daily activities revolve.
To ensure functional zoning within the apartment, the hallway that connects the living areas to the sleeping quarters was optimized by integrating practical storage solutions that serve both areas. This approach not only maximizes available space but also enhances the apartment’s practicality without sacrificing aesthetics. The sleeping area consists of two single bedrooms and a master bedroom, complemented by a large bathroom that serves both the bedrooms and the living area.
The renovation has dramatically transformed the apartment, redefining its layout and optimizing the use of space, all while maintaining the warmth and welcoming atmosphere of the original childhood home.
