The redevelopment and repurposing project for the former Pirinoli Cotton Mill in Boves is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the region’s textile industrial heritage while addressing contemporary needs for social inclusion, community engagement, and economic development. Despite the state of abandonment in which the complex was found, it holds significant cultural value for the local community, making its revitalization a key factor in the area’s regeneration.
The project was designed with the objective of transforming the former cotton mill into a multifunctional cultural hub capable of hosting activities ranging from art to education, all while promoting active community participation. Flexibility and multifunctionality were central to the design approach, with careful consideration given to preserving the existing structures and integrating principles of both environmental and economic sustainability.
A thorough analysis of the economic, historical-cultural, and social dimensions preceded the design process to ensure the intervention’s feasibility and resilience. The use of planning tools such as the Business Model Canvas facilitated the synthesis of key information, enabling effective project management and long-term oversight.
The refunctionalization of the complex has considered various usage scenarios to maintain high flexibility and adaptability, with the project divided into independent sectors, each with specific functions. This design choice ensures the economic sustainability of the center over time, allowing for spatial adjustments to meet future demands.
A detailed economic and financial plan for the project’s initial phase confirmed its feasibility, demonstrating how the proposal successfully balances cultural and social ambitions with a solid economic foundation.
Ultimately, the intervention aims to give the former Pirinoli Cotton Mill a new identity, one that evolves over time and becomes a reference point for the Boves community, significantly contributing to the cultural, social, and economic revival of the region.
