RESIDENTIAL
The “Maison 2CV” project represents a bold transformation involving the demolition and reconstruction of a single-family home, following an ambitious vision set forth by the clients. The aim was to create a modern and functional residence while maintaining a connection to the past through a design that blends contemporary and industrial styles.
The residence is entirely developed on a raised floor, preserving the location of the original structure to comply with urban regulations that mandate the retention of the façade line facing the street. This choice allows for respect of the pre-existing context while introducing a completely new spatial configuration.
Among the primary requests from the clients was the desire for all main areas to be on a single level, with particular attention given to the visibility of the car from the living area. To address this requirement, the design incorporates a large window in the living room, providing a glimpse of the car parked in the adjacent garage, which is also designed as a studio. In this way, the automotive space becomes an integral part of daily life, enhancing the dialogue between the internal and external environments.
Access to the home is through a ramp designed for individuals with disabilities, leading to an entrance immersed in greenery. From here, the spaces unfold into a spacious open-plan living area, while the more intimate sleeping area is accessible through a hallway. The connection to the outdoors is further enhanced by a large terrace that opens from the living area, ideal for enjoying moments of outdoor conviviality.
The heart of the project lies in the window that separates the living room from the garage/studio. In addition to providing a striking view of the automobile, it becomes a key architectural element, reflecting the industrial aesthetic that characterizes the entire intervention. The structure of the garage, with its square motif and the combined use of brick and steel, precisely embodies the clients’ desire for a space with a bold and modern character.
An internal staircase connects the garage to an attic space and a terrace on the upper floor, extending the potential for use and adding a new spatial dimension to the residence.
“Maison 2CV” exemplifies architecture that successfully merges architectural quality with functionality. The project elegantly addresses practical and stylistic needs, creating a residence that looks to the future while maintaining a symbolic connection to the past through its details and the balance between materials and volumes.
