The project involves the renovation of a portion of an ancient noble farmhouse located in the Piedmont countryside, characterized by majestic brick vaults that lend it an authentic charm. The farmhouse, which has already been partially restored through an intervention that successfully highlighted the spaces in a contemporary manner, will undergo a new transformation aimed at creating an additional living unit within the uninhabited section, while respecting the materials and forms of the previous renovation.

The new intervention will focus on the recovery of an attic and a barn, where the typical elements of local rural architecture will be preserved. The main living areas of the new residence will be developed on the first floor, featuring a spacious open-plan area for the living room, while the sleeping area will include a master bedroom, a small bedroom, and a bathroom. Access will be from the ground floor, through a space connected to both the main garden, facing the sunny front of the house, and the rear courtyard, where a staircase will lead to the lower-level rooms, which will include a second bedroom and another bathroom.

The project aims to create a simple dwelling, a welcoming refuge where materials such as stone and wood will dominate, warming the spaces and providing an intimate and authentic atmosphere. The heart of the home will be heated by a “puotage” stove, which will also serve as a communal cooking element, evoking the warmth of traditional homes.

Internally, the residence will reflect a dialogue between tradition and modernity, where the historical elements of the farmhouse will blend with contemporary architectural details. This meeting of past and present will render the project innovative while also respecting the historical memory of the farmhouse and the generations that have inhabited and cared for it for centuries.
